Páramo Directional Clothing - a British outdoor (hiking, mountain wear) clothing company.
How it shows
Just doing it; private business with ethical approach to manufacture and concern over its environmental impact
Characteristics
Good process; Páramos manufacturing is carried out by a charitable manufacturer in Bogota, Colombia. The factory was begun by working with a foundation set up to provides skills and jobs for 'at risk women' who might otherwise be forced into prostitution or become drug uses.
Sustainable; Páramo is committed to minimising it's environmental impact. Its clothes are designed to be robust and repairable and last a very long time. Nylon is not used (not as chemically stable as Polyester). The Nikwax technologies used mean that the products are not environmentally persistent or toxic. Páramo does not use any fluro-carbons, either as a DWR treatment or as a waterproof barrier. Páramo also works with The World Land Trust on conservation efforts and carbon offsetting of all aspects of its operations.
